It's been a while since I have done a podcast. It's been a busy, busy year. I finally got down to recording a podcast and my Dad joins me on this one and we talk about the things he likes about America (and oh, they are visiting us!) and things he misses about India. Join us, won't you? :)

Running On Nostalgia

Monday, November 14, 2016

"Nostalgia - it's delicate, but potent. It takes us to a place where we ache to go again." - Don Draper

It was freezing cold. I woke up really, like really early and drove 25 miles just so I can stand in queue and drink free coffee in a coffee shop that had been turned into a fictional Tv show (Luke's) diner for a day. Now, back in the early 00's when I used to watch Gilmore Girls religiously, never in a million years would I have thought, that this day was ever possible. But now, we live in an age where our favourite song or our favourite episode of F.R.I.E.N.D.S is just a click away. Thanks to social media, our childhood/young adult obsession gets validated when Luke's Diner or Will & Grace is trending on Twitter.

There's this sudden resurgence of reunion shows of all the beloved 90s shows( not that I am complaining). With social media, with the right hashtags, you have the power and you can get your favourite actors and favourtie show producers' attention and ask them for a reunion show. I hear that's what happened with Full House. FYI, I really wouldn't mind a Andaz Apna Apna renuion. Let's make that happen?

But honestly, whenever I hear of talks about these reunions, after my initial excitement (read screaming and squealing) gets over, I always wonder if it's really a good idea to revisit them. It's like how you'd never want to bump into your first crush, as an adult. There must be some truth to "you can't go home again", right?

But nevertheless, it's always fun to meet people that share your same 90s obsession.  I remember how obsessed me and my husband were with Super Mario on Wii and all those sleepless nights of trying to finish all the levels. I hear there's a Super Mario Run app coming up soon.

Nostalgia gives a sense of security in this fast-paced world. And sometimes, you do want the world to slow down like your good ol' dial-up connection.

"Nostalgia is a twinge in your heart far more powerful than memory alone" says Don Draper on one of his ad pitches. Couldn't have said it better myself.

Homemade Granola Recipe

Wednesday, May 18, 2016

I am equal parts health conscious and lazy, in that, I don't like working out but I do try (and fail!) to eat healthy. Hubs and I try to get done with dinner by 7, and that leaves us super hungry by 10:00 and we reach for the dreaded unhealthy snacks in our pantry.

Favourites Of The Week

Favourites Of The Week

  • Ours has to be the most food-obsessed generation of all time and this is perfect. I almost want to frame it and put it up in our dining area.
  • A pre-made template of every celebrity interview ever. It's hilarious.
  • Nothing is more annoying than a non-ripe avocado right when you are craving for guacomole. You can ripen it in 10 minutes. Go ahead and buy those avocados that just went on sale.

FOMO and How To Overcome It

Saturday, February 6, 2016

This episode has me and Angie talking about FOMO, the fear of missing out. We live in a world where we are constantly bombarded with information, of places we haven't visited, books we haven't read, podcast we haven't listened to, restaurants we haven't been to and the list goes on. So, how do we handle it, is what we are discussing on this podcast. And, it's not preachy at all ;)

Lootera's Gorgeous Dalhousie House

Monday, February 1, 2016

I am obsessed with houses, beautiful houses, houses in any form, shape and size. And when I watch a movie or a TV show, I pay a lot of attention to the homes featured in them. I literally remember all the homes and their floor plans featured in my favorite movies and TV shows.

I finally watched Lootera and since this is not a movie review, I won't say much about the movie, except that this would be one of those classics that we will go back to, even after 20 years. Now, I want to talk about the house that was featured in the second half of this movie. I fell in love with this cottage. It had me at verandah.

Movie Recommendations for Bollywood Newbies on Netflix

Thursday, January 28, 2016

As Indians, Bollywood is in our DNA. We may sometimes complain about how bad some of the Bollywood movies are, but in our hearts, we know we can't live without them. And we even try convincing our non-Indian friends to watch at least one Bollywood movie. Of late, Netflix has been coming up with some really good Bollywood movies to stream. So, here are a few movies I would recommend if you are looking for a good Bollywood movie to watch.

What Should I Read Next? (What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarty)

Monday, January 25, 2016

What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarty

I have a hard time remembering the names of authors, but not this one, because she could very well be related to the fictional villain Professor Moriarty of Sherlock :)

Review: You know how all of us grow as individuals and as a couple and how sometimes. we like that part of us and sometimes we don't? Well, this book is about Alice who loses her memory of the last 10 years and thinks she's still 30 and happily in love with her husband and expecting her first baby, when infact, her current life is nothing like that.

Golden Globe Moments 2016

Monday, January 11, 2016

I spent three hours (ok..pretty much the entire evening!) watching the Golden Globes and there were all kinds of moments that were played out on the red carpet and on stage. Watching it also reminded me that there are TV shows and movies that I haven't even heard of. Now, that's a first! They have duly gone on my "Things to Binge-Watch in 2016" list;)

From Katy Perry's bump-it to Taraji's cookie give-away..here are some of the moments I thought were worth writing about. Enjoy!
